Dr. Adhikari is an Assistant Professor and Extension Food Safety specialist at the Louisiana State University AgCenter. He is involved in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating comprehensive issue-based educational outreach programming related to food safety. He work closely with producers, packers and processors on issues related with Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements. Dr. Adhikari is a certified lead trainer for the FSMA Preventative Controls of Human Foods, Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) and Produce Safety Alliance Growers Training. He assist small and medium size producers and processors with Good Agricultural Practices, Good Handling Practices, HACCP and food safety implementations through workshops and field visits. Dr. Adhikari also manages a research program supporting the extension programs with research in the areas of, understanding the persistence of foodborne pathogen in food production environments and developing food safety interventions for pathogen risk reduction. His current research focuses on identifying and developing alternative practices to mitigate microbial food safety risk and help food producers and processors comply with the FSMA requirements.
