The goal of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule (PSR) is to ensure safe produce in the marketplace by preventing microbial contamination. The Montana Department of Agriculture Produce Safety Program is committed to assisting produce growers to develop a proactive approach to food safety on the farm. This includes help with adhering to PSR recordkeeping requirements through the use of the FSMA Produce Safety Recordkeeping Guide.
The FSMA Produce Safety Recordkeeping Guide provides a collection of both farm activity record and supporting documentation record templates. The difference between these two types of records is explained in more detail along with a breakdown of which records are required, required if applicable, and optional. Completed record examples are included before the template to give instruction on how to correctly fill out the record template.
There are two versions of this guide available for download to assist with recordkeeping. The document titled “Fillable Recordkeeping Guide” is designed to be used electronically as a fillable PDF on devices such as tablets, mobile devices, or computers. The other document titled “Print Version Recordkeeping Guide” is designed to be printed and filled out with pen or pencil. This version has additional cover inserts for placement in a binder or notebook. Each version contains the same material but are optimized for their intended uses to accommodate a grower’s preferred method of record keeping.
