Harry Short works on the Produce Safety Team at the Oregon Department of Agriculture. He conducts training on the Produce Safety Rule, generates outreach materials and provides technical assistance, contributes to the inventory of Oregon covered farms, and helps with outreach to agricultural operations dealing with COVID-19 cases. He comes from the farming world where he operated for eight seasons a CSA and market farm that sold produce to families in the Portland area. He worked with the OSU Dry Farming Project as a technician, where he managed test plots, collected and analyzed research data, and performed outreach to local growers and allies. He has also recruited graphic designers, local food entrepreneurs, and farmers to develop pro bono marketing materials for dry farmed foods. Prior to farming, he worked as a high school chemistry teacher. In his spare time, Harry breeds lines of corn, squash, watermelon, and tomatoes for drought tolerance and performance in dry farmed systems.
