Dr. Trujillo is one of eight members for the Produce Safety Network (PSN), Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). His function is to collaborate and serve as technical advisor with state representatives and the produce industry in the implementation of the FDA Produce Safety Rule. Previously, Dr. Trujillo served as International Food Safety Managers in the Office of the Director, CFSAN and international representative of the FDA at meetings in the area of food safety. He has also been a Consumer Safety Officer (CSO) at the Office of Food Safety (OFS), CFSAN, FDA. In this capacity Dr. Trujillo was responsible for the development of FDA regulations for microbiological food safety, with special emphasis on food microbiology of fresh products, and has traveled with FDA inspectors during investigations of outbreaks and surveillance as an expert in the area of food safety. Prior to joining OFS, Dr. Trujillo spent ten years working as a food safety researcher at several FDA offices. He has organized and coordinated numerous international FDA extension programs on food safety (e.g., International Workshop on Mycotoxins, XI IUPAC Symposium on Mycotoxins and Phycotoxins). During his tenure at the laboratories, he hosted several international visitors to train them in the detection of microbial and chemical contaminants by conventional and molecular methods.
